Angela is a science illustrator and artist living and working in Northern California.

From an early age I have always had a need for artistic expression, exercised through all forms of media from charcoal pencil sketches to oil paintings. I captured the natural world around me as I saw it in pencil and paint. I emigrated from Wuhan, China, to San Francisco, California where I studied Architecture and Interior Design (B.S.) before finding my way back to my childhood artistic roots. I am a graduate student in the Science Illustration program at California State University in Monterey Bay. Science Illustration allows for both the opportunity of artistic expression, as well as, the challenge of executing detailed illustrations of subjects. Science illustration, as a field, is broad in subject and media but always has the goal of accuracy and communication: from rendering the rough texture of lichen in colored pencils to rendering the colors of the iridescent Asian jewel beetle shell in Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator. I thoroughly enjoy the variety and challenges of art and illustration.

Science illustrators are artists in the service of science.
